Candidate Students: The Newsome Park Elementary School nominates second grade students as candidates for admission to the Newsome-Bailey Project. Candidate students are those who are below grade level in one or more subjects and qualify for free or reduced cost meals at school. Parents of candidate students are invited to attend an information session on the Project, and to submit an application for student admission consideration.
Student Assessments: Student applicants are assessed prior to admission to the Project using the Woodcock-Johnson (WJ) Cognitive and Achievement assessments. Assessments are used to forecast a student's ability to respond to educational therapy. Students admitted to the Project are also assessed at the end of each school year to measure academic progress.
